15 years ago, on July 5, 1999, a new daytime drama made its debut on NBC. Passions, a soap opera following the lives of four core families, the Crane's, the Lopez-Fitzgerald's, the Bennett's, and the Russell's, takes place in the picturesque New England town of Harmony. From the evil antics of 300 year old witch Tabitha Lenox to the wide-eyed dreams of 17 year old Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, Passions gave its viewers unique stories of magic, romance, and suspense. Following the contrasting lives of Police Chief Sam Bennett and multimillionaire executive Julian Crane brought life to a show otherwise enamored with the fantasy of demons, magic, and a teenager who could see the future. Passions brought diversity like no other soap before it, introducing prominent families of Hispanic and African-American ethnicity, even including a British witch and her 3 foot talking doll. From the tabloid leak of Ethan Crane's true paternity to the sordid past of Doctor Eve Russell, Passions never failed to deliver dynamic stories in true soap opera fashion!
From July 5, 1999 to August 7, 2008, Passions took a journey like no other, and as we approach the 15 year anniversary of its premiere, I would like to start a new journey. From episode 1 to 2,231, I will be doing a re-watch of every single episode, and I would like to invite every Passions fan out there to join me. I would like to introduce my blog, Return to Harmony, as a Passions viewing haven. Starting tomorrow, I will post an episode on the day it aired 15 years earlier. This is a chance for those who never saw the earlier years to finally see their favorite show from the beginning, or for those who watched from day 1 to dive head first into the nostalgia of reliving their favorite soap. Please join me as I finally return to Harmony.
